We are thrilled to announce that the Drone & Vertical Mobility Academy (DAVMA) and FIA Region I have recently become a member of the Urban-Air-Mobility Initiative Cities Community (UIC2). This initiative is a key component of the renowned CIVITAS network, which is dedicated to cleaner, better transport in Europe and beyond.
The mobility sector is currently undergoing a significant transformation, with an array of new technologies, services, and companies marking a major shift in individual mobility. This includes the rise of electric cars, the birth of transport network companies, and the ongoing automation of vehicles on our roads. Now, this transformation is being mirrored by an “elevation” of passenger and goods transport into the air.
At DAVMA, we are at the forefront of this exciting shift. We are witnessing a convergence of technologies that blur the traditional divide between different transport modes, including that between ground and air transport. This increasing technological convergence is giving rise to new scenarios and visionary transport solutions such as drone-hubs, where individual driving units are docked on drones for long-distance trips, or even the replacement of self-driving vehicles by self-flying drones.
As part of this global shift, DAVMA is positioning FIA clubs as leaders in this emerging technology. Led by Switzerland’s TCS, DAVMA is a centre of excellence that acts as the FIA’s clearing-house for all aspects relating to the professional and private use of electrically propelled drones and jets, capable of vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL).
Our recent membership in UIC2 is a significant step towards our commitment to sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. We are excited to collaborate with other cities and organizations in the CIVITAS network to shape the future of transport. Stay tuned for more updates as we navigate this exciting journey into the skies!
